It never ceases to amaze how the classic scratch card is such a familiar part of so many people’s lives all over the world both online and off. There are so many uses for scratchies that you would never think of. One of the more interesting uses is that of Crimestoppers in the U.K. who have announced they are to be running a campaign which is aimed at helping people identify the smell of cannabis.
There is a growing problem with cannabis plantations throughout the UK and in order to combat the problem Crimestoppers will be sending out marijuana-scented scratch cards to hundreds of households in order to familiarize the public with the scent of the wacky weed.
According to figure there was a 15% rise in cannabis in homes between 2011 and 2012. Problem areas include West Yorkshire who earned the title of having the most plantations in the UK with over 1,800 cannabis farms operating in the area between 2010 and 2012. They were followed by London with 1,200 and Greater Manchester with 800.
According to Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO),Andy Bliss,” Many people don’t realize that the empty, run-down house or flat on their street with people coming and going late at night may actually be a commercial cannabis farm.”
The scratch cards that are to be distributed to the public include a black and green card which are scented with the actual smell of cannabis hen scratched. This project is not the first of its kind and was started three years ago in Holland where over 30,000 scratch cards were distributed to households in order to combat the marijuana problem.
